The national museum “Ahmed Zabana”
It was created in 1879 by a Learned Society called at the time, Society of Geography and Archeology of the Province of Oran. At that time, there was no Museum in Oran, but there was a dispersed heritage in the former town hall of the Place de la République where there was a room called "Salle des Oiseaux" where a beautiful collection of 'Birds, Ostrich eggs, monkeys, a Polished Ax and a few other curiosities, as well as in the walkways of the pond promenade (Ibn Badis Square) were exposed to the weather various Roman inscriptions. The idea of creating a Museum in the city came to Commander Demaeght (Archaeologist and Epigraphist) who appealed to citizens to enrich the existing collections. He was appointed by the members of the Society to collect the precious documents at his home.
